Walk-in shower cost

Re-Bath and Safe Step each publish an installed range for walk-in showers, and Freedom Showers lists shower kits priced before installation. Compare installed ranges with installed quotes and kit prices with kit prices. None of these figures is a national average or a quote for your bathroom.

Two kinds of price, kept apart

Walk-in shower prices online mix two different numbers. An installed range is what a company says the finished project costs with labor included. A kit price is what a manufacturer charges for the shower parts alone. Here is why that matters: a kit price can look like a fraction of an installed price because everything that happens inside your bathroom sits outside it.

This page keeps each figure in its own table with the seller, the date we read it and what the amount covers.

Seller: Re-Bath. Read November 1, 2026. Confirm separately: sales tax, permits, costs above the upper amount: the installer says the range runs to $15,000 or more, location-driven labor and permitting differences the installer says move the number, whether a specific Re-Bath franchise quotes within the range: the figure is presented as an average installation cost, not a written quote. Excluded: none stated. This observation is not a national or local median.

Seller: Safe Step. Read November 3, 2026. Confirm separately: sales tax, permits, whether a specific Safe Step quote falls within the published range: the figure is the seller's general installed range, not a written quote, size, materials and feature selections in the household's own quote. Excluded: none stated. This observation is not a national or local median.

Re-Bath's installation cost guide gives $4,000 to $15,000 or more for walk-in shower installation and says location alone can change the number a lot. The words "or more" matter: the top of that range is no ceiling. Treat the guide as a planning figure and ask the nearest Re-Bath location for a written quote.

Safe Step's walk-in shower page puts most walk-in showers at $6,000 to $15,000 installed, depending on size, materials and features, with the exact price set by a custom quote. The two installed ranges overlap, but each describes one company's own projects. We have not measured a market price, and we have not collected enough written quotes to calculate a national or local median.

Seller: Freedom Showers. Read November 1, 2026. Not confirmed in this amount: shipping, installation labor, sales tax, whether the promotional price and the US$5,044.00 list price persist. An equipment price is not an installed quote and not a typical price.

Freedom Showers sells walk-in shower kits online. Its 60 by 30 inch walk-in shower kit with a left seat and shower door lists at $2,714 to $2,794 depending on the finish selected. Its 60 by 31 inch Easy Step shower with a left drain showed a sale price of $3,512 beside a list price of $5,044 when we read it, so that amount can move when the promotion ends.

Neither listing confirms that shipping, installation or sales tax is included, and the kit price says nothing about drain relocation or rough-in plumbing. If you plan to buy a kit, ask the installer to quote labor for that exact model before you order it.

Where the money goes between a kit and a finished shower

The gap between a kit price and an installed range is the work in your bathroom. Ask each installer to price these lines separately or state in writing that they are included.

Part of the projectWhat to ask
RemovalDoes the price include taking out the tub or old shower, disposal and protecting the home?
Base and thresholdWhat base, threshold height and dimensions does the proposal name?
Walls and enclosureWhich wall system, door or curtain and finish are in the price?
PlumbingAre drain, supply and valve changes included, and who performs them?
Seat and grab barsWhere does the design place the seat and bars, and what in the wall holds them?
RepairsHow will damaged subfloor or framing found after removal be priced and approved?
PermitsWho checks local permit rules and arranges any inspection?

Compare quotes that cover the same lines. A lower total that leaves out plumbing or repairs describes a smaller job. Ask each bidder to point out any line the other quote leaves out before you decide.

Compare the shower with a conversion or a walk-in tub

If the shower replaces a tub, the tub-to-shower conversion cost guide holds one installer's published price for a ceramic-tile conversion in Upstate South Carolina, with its own scope. If you are still choosing between a shower and a tub, the walk-in tub cost guide carries manufacturer installed ranges for tubs. Keep each quote in its own column so a shower total never sits beside a tub total with different work inside it.

Plan the shower with the rest of the bathroom

Before you fix the layout, check the bathing seat and transfer bench measurements against the shower you plan to buy. The room-by-room checklist places the bathroom beside the other access work in the house, and the cost hub lists every dated budget on this site. The source method explains how we record seller prices.

Common questions

How much does a walk-in shower cost installed?

Re-Bath's installation guide gives $4,000 to $15,000 or more for walk-in shower installation and says location alone can move the number. That is one installer's published planning figure, still printed when we re-read it on November 3, 2026. Safe Step, a manufacturer that sells installed showers, publishes $6,000 to $15,000 installed on its walk-in shower page, read the same day. Budget from your own written quote.

Why does a shower kit cost so much less than an installed shower?

A kit price covers the shower parts the manufacturer sells. Neither Freedom Showers listing we read confirms that shipping, installation or sales tax is included. An installed range adds installation labor. Removal, plumbing, wall and floor repairs and permits are lines to confirm in each written quote, because the Re-Bath range does not say which of them it covers.

Is a walk-in shower the same project as a tub-to-shower conversion?

When the new shower replaces a tub, the work overlaps. Use the tub-to-shower conversion guide for the one regional conversion price we hold, and ask each installer to describe in writing what comes out and what goes in.
